Start up & Support
Setting Up & Supporting Youth Groups
Working in local communities with leaders and residents, NAYC provides all the support and resources required to set up new youth clubs and activity groups for children and young people. Our support includes consultation, governance and safeguarding, along with DBS checks and volunteer training. Our membership has grown through our partnerships with stakeholder and funders. We have developed a helpful Toolkit that takes you through the set up process and we continue to support you as your new youth provision becomes established.
Advice, Information & Support
NAYC provides advice and information to ensure youth groups are set up with responsible leadership. This includes legal policies, safeguarding procedures and training to ensure a quality provision is safe and enjoyable. Affiliated groups are allocated a coordinator/ worker who are contactable to provide leaders and volunteers with ongoing support. This includes visiting your group, quality assurance and DBS checks. We provide additional information through our social media and regular newsletter.
Community Engagement
Starting up a new youth club can be challenging so we work with local communities to ensure they have the right youth provision that meets the needs of the young people in their locality. We will engage with local councils and residents to understand local needs and which provision is possible.
To better focus our resources, we will conduct research and mapping of youth provision across the area. This will help us build a comprehensive picture of countywide youth services, allowing us to understand the scale, type, and distribution of provision. Through this process, we aim to identify strengths, gaps, and opportunities for improved service delivery.
There are a number of different ways we engage with local communities, from a meeting with a concerned parent or local council to an information evening or a community event. We give presentations of our work and provide promotional materials for these meetings and events.
The catalyst for a new and successful youth club is meeting the person who has the vision and passion to do something for the children and young people in their own community. In most cases this person will take responsibility for the new club and we will work with this local leader to set up the right provision and bring in other local people to make it happen.
NAYC Toolkit
Setting up new youth provision is a process and we work closely with you to make it easily understandable and manageable. We help to set things up in the right order, and streamlined, so that you are ready to open the new club or group at the earliest time. A very useful resource for setting up a new youth provision is our ‘Toolkit’. This includes everything you will need to set up and keep the provision safe and sustainable. The comprehensive Toolkit includes templates of policies, procedures and forms and our team works with you to cover all aspects.
